Ramadan in Singapore: A Complete Guide
Ramadan is the Islamic month of daily fasting from before dawn to sunset. In Singapore the Mufti declares the start each year; MUIS lists the first day of Ramadan 1448H as 8 February 2027.
Ramadan is the Islamic month of daily fasting from before dawn to sunset, ending with Hari Raya Aidilfitri. This guide covers the practical side in Singapore — the dates MUIS lists, fasting hours, Tarawih at mosques, zakat fitrah and the public holiday. For any ruling on fasting, refer to MUIS or a qualified Asatizah.
When Ramadan falls in Singapore
The start of Ramadan is declared each year by the Mufti of Singapore, based on astronomical calculation and the sighting of the new moon. MUIS publishes the anticipated dates ahead of time in its Key Islamic dates and Islamic calendar for the year.

Dates from MUIS’s published 2027 calendar; confirmed by the Mufti’s declaration nearer the time.
For 1448H / 2027, MUIS lists the first day of Ramadan as 8 February 2027 (Monday), with Hari Raya Aidilfitri (1 Syawal) on 10 March 2027 (Wednesday). These are the dates in MUIS’s published 2027 calendar; the Mufti issues the formal declaration nearer the time, as he did for 2026, when he announced that 1 Ramadan 1447H fell on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
Fasting hours: Imsak to Maghrib
Each day of Ramadan, the fast runs from Imsak — a few minutes before the Subuh (dawn) prayer — to the Maghrib (sunset) call, when the fast is broken (iftar). MUIS publishes the exact daily times for Singapore in its Imsakiah Ramadan timetable.
As an illustration, on the first day of Ramadan 2026 (19 February 2026) the MUIS Imsakiah listed Imsak at 5:48 am, Subuh at 5:58 am, Maghrib (iftar) at 7:22 pm and Isyak at 8:31 pm. The times shift by a few minutes across the month, so follow the current year’s Imsakiah rather than a single figure.
You can look up the daily Singapore times on our Ramadan timetable (Imsak & Iftar).
Tarawih and night prayers at mosques
Throughout Ramadan, mosques hold Tarawih (night) prayers after the Isyak prayer, with dedicated spaces for female congregants. In the last 10 nights, selected mosques also hold Qiyamullail (late-night prayers).
For Ramadan 2026, MUIS and the mosques provided 110,000 Tarawih prayer spaces each night. An additional 15,500 spaces were available at up to 46 mosque-affiliated Qaryahs — community venues that primarily serve elderly congregants and those with mobility needs — about 20% more than the previous year, with new Qaryahs at Tengah, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Pasir Ris and Punggol.
MUIS gathers the details — Tarawih and Qiyamullail locations, bubur (porridge) distribution and childminding — on a single page at go.gov.sg/ramadan each year, and in recent years on a digital map so you can find a mosque or Qaryah near you.
Zakat fitrah before Eid
Zakat fitrah is paid during Ramadan and must be settled before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. For Ramadan 2026 / 1447H, MUIS set it at S$5.00 to S$8.00 per person, the band depending on the grade of reference rice. In the same 2026 announcement, MUIS set fidyah at S$4.00 per day and removed the compounded fidyah requirement.

Amounts are reviewed each year; check the current figure from MUIS before the month begins.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Ramadan ends with Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Hari Raya Puasa), on 1 Syawal. It is a gazetted public holiday in Singapore — the Ministry of Manpower publishes the official public-holiday dates each year — and, like the start of Ramadan, the exact day is confirmed by the Mufti closer to the time. MUIS lists it as 10 March 2027 in its 2027 calendar.
Giving during Ramadan
Beyond zakat fitrah, Ramadan is a peak season for sadaqah and charitable giving. If you are weighing what to give and how, see zakat, sadaqah and infaq: what’s the difference.
For rulings
Who must fast, valid exemptions (illness, travel, pregnancy), and how to make up missed days are religious matters. Refer to MUIS or a qualified Asatizah — this page does not issue rulings.
