Qurban in Singapore: How It Works

Short answer

Qurban (korban) is the sacrifice performed during Hari Raya Haji (Aidiladha) and the days that follow. In Singapore you can take part through MUIS's SalamSG Korban programme, which offers both local korban at participating mosques and overseas options. You usually buy a whole animal or a share of a larger one. It covers logistics, not rulings.

Disclosure: SedekahSG, mentioned later, is a giving platform affiliated with this site’s operator. We present it as one option and disclose that connection openly.

Qurban (also spelled korban) is the sacrifice performed during Hari Raya Haji (Aidiladha). This guide explains the practical options for people in Singapore - it does not issue religious rulings. For those, refer to MUIS or a qualified Asatizah.

When qurban happens

Qurban is performed on Hari Raya Haji (Aidiladha) and the days that follow it. Because these dates follow the Islamic (lunar) calendar, they move each year - confirm the Aidiladha date for the current year from MUIS, as programmes set their cut-off and collection dates around it.

Your options in Singapore

Each year, around Hari Raya Haji, the main organised route is MUIS’s SalamSG Korban programme, offered through many mosques in Singapore. (Note: registration opens annually and closes before Aidiladha — the 2026 round has ended; the details below describe how the programme works each year.) It typically has two kinds of options:

  1. Local korban - carried out at participating mosques in Singapore through licensed operators. A number of mosques offer their premises for live korban.
  2. Overseas korban - carried out abroad, with meat distributed to communities in need; for 2026 MUIS’s programme also included humanitarian distribution. For 2026, MUIS said successfully registered participants would receive chilled, pre-packed meat within two weeks after Hari Raya Haji.

You generally choose between a whole animal or a share of a larger animal - for example, a single sheep or goat typically counts as one person’s korban, while cattle are commonly divided into shares.

What to check before you book

  • Timing: that the korban is carried out within the valid days around Aidiladha.
  • Local or overseas: where the korban takes place and where the meat goes.
  • Whole or share: whether you are buying a whole animal or a share, and how many shares make up one animal.
  • Cut-off date: when registration and payment close (well before Aidiladha each year).
  • Confirmation: whether you receive confirmation that your korban was carried out.
  • Operator and refunds: who the operator is, and what happens — refund or alternative korban — if it can’t deliver.

2026 update: disruption to some local korban

During Hari Raya Haji 2026, local korban arranged by the operator The Meat Brothers (TMB) at four mosques was disrupted, affecting about 400 participants. TMB said it would complete refunds by the end of August 2026, but as at 8 October 2026 more than 300 refunds were still outstanding. On 9 October 2026 MUIS said it is working with the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) to help affected participants seek recourse, including claims at the Small Claims Tribunals. If you were affected, see MUIS’s notice for the refund-assessment link, or contact MUIS ([email protected]) or CASE (6277 5100).

MUIS has said it is strengthening safeguards for local korban in 2027: closer oversight of operators’ readiness, clearer contractual and contingency requirements, and starting preparations six to eight months ahead instead of two to three. Details are due before Korban 2027 registration opens.

Indicative cost

Korban prices vary by programme, whether it is local or overseas, and whether you take a share or a whole animal, and they change each year. Rather than quote a figure that may be out of date, check the current, dated pricing on the official SalamSG Korban programme (when registration opens for the year) or another organiser.

Another option: SedekahSG

SedekahSG (an affiliated giving platform - see the disclosure above) also runs giving campaigns. If it offers a qurban channel for the year, you can see its current, dated details on its website. Compare any option on the points above and choose what suits you.

Religious questions

Who qurban applies to, its conditions, and how it should be performed are religious matters. For rulings, refer to MUIS or a qualified Asatizah - we do not provide them here.
